Are Sea Monkeys Vegan?

Scan from the Hanna-Barbera comic book “The Hair Bear Bunch” No. 3 August 1972, published by Gold Key

In case you missed it, read the “Wonder if it’s Vegan?” post at the Bacon is Not an Herb blog here. I ever so vaguely recall that my older brother had Sea Monkeys for a while in the mid-1960s. I was probably under 5 years old at the time and only remember that I wasn’t allowed to touch the bowl.

Business Cards of the Day: Vegan & Vegetarian

After a couple of trips to NYC and a vegetarian festival in Washington, D.C, I had some cards piling up to post. Quite the variety of shapes, sizes, and one is even a sticker [Action for Animals]. The two round ones above [purple and golden yellow] are actually the front and back of the same card for gobo. Very often, The Bacon is Not an Herb card [bottom row] has a QR code sticker on the back as well [seen to the right of that card] — kudos for great eye-catching use of technology!

Vegan Ipsum

Both Vegan Ipsum and Veggie Ipsum are simple placeholder text generators.

A bit of history of Lorem Ipsum found on the Straight Dope:
“... Lorem ipsum was part of a passage from Cicero, specifically De finibus bonorum et malorum, a treatise on the theory of ethics written in 45 BC. The original reads, “Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit . . .” (“There is no one who loves pain itself, who seeks after it and wants to have it, simply because it is pain …”).

McClintock recalled having seen lorem ipsum in a book of early metal type samples, which commonly used extracts from the classics. “What I find remarkable,” he told Before & After, “is that this text has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since some printer in the 1500s took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book; it has survived not only four centuries of letter-by-letter resetting but even the leap into electronic typesetting, essentially unchanged...”

Raven & Crow

From Raven & Crow’s blog: “Since they started scavenging from all those dead people during the Black Plague, crows and ravens have gotten some pretty harsh associations slapped on them. Harbingers of death, bringers of doom, jerky black birds, etc. Which is why, to this day, groups of crows are known as murders. Likewise, a group of ravens is called an unkindness. At our design company, raven + crow studio, we're proud to say that we make a point to work with companies and non-profits who are out to make the world a better place.”
Their blog is dedicated to all things kind in the realms that fascinate them: Design, music, culture, fashion, and, of course, vegan food. Visit Raven and Crow’s blog here, and their design studio here.

“The QR_STENCILER is a free, fully-automated utility which converts QR codes into vector-based stencil patterns suitable for laser-cutting. Additionally, we present QR_HOBO_CODES, a series of one hundred QR stencil designs which, covertly marked in urban spaces, may be used to warn people about danger or clue them into good situations...”

Guide to Food Ingredients

via vrg
“The Vegetarian Journal’s Guide to Food Ingredients is a partial listing of common food ingredients taken from an ongoing VRG food ingredients project. The objective in this booklet is to provide an easy-to-read, useful list of ingredients commonly found in many foods and beverages that indicates whether they are vegetarian, vegan, or non-vegetarian. The guide is unique in that we place emphasis on the commercial sources of ingredients most commonly used today while mentioning other possible sources of ingredients.”
